Check Disk and Format Disk component v.1.3

Components > Files and Drives > Disk Access

By Magenta Systems Ltd.

Freeware + source 30 Sep 2013

Description

The Check Disk and Format Disk component is a Delphi wrapper around the Windows APIs exported by fmifs.dll, which are used to format fixed or removable disk drives and perform disk checks on Windows NT4 and later. It supports any local disk drive that has been assigned a drive letter by Windows, just like the normal format and check disk tools in Windows.

The component may be used to format disks which are not currently in-use, and to verify the file system on any drives, but only fix it on drives that are not in-use. It may be useful for preparing removable backup drives.

These fmifs.dll APIs are undocumented by Microsoft, but were reverse engineering by System Internals. The component is is based on the command line Chkdskx and Formatx applications by Mark Russinovich available from his site.

Please note that the fmifs.dll APIs are different from most other Windows APIs and are intended to be interactive with the user, rather than passively accepting input and providing simple output. Specifically, they return progress information that is normally seen in a Windows dialog or in a command line window, showing the steps being taken and reporting any errors or corruption found. This component attempts to parse the messages and provide simple return information. A demo program illustrates the use of all the functions.

TMagRas is a set of installable Delphi non-visual components supplied with several demo and example programs and a help file, for accessing Dial Up Networking or Remote Access Services functions. It allows Delphi developers to add full RAS functionality to their applications, including dialling and monitoring multiple connections, creating and editing phonebooks (without using Windows dialogs), and getting performance information for connections. TMagRas supports Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, Windows 7 and 2008, allowing an application to support all the various RAS extensions in NT and later, including sub entries for multi- channel ISDN connections. Performance statistics are returned separately for each connection in NT4 and each channel in W2K. Incoming calls to NT4 RAS Server may be monitored.

TMagRas is supplied as five separate installable Delphi components: TMagRasCon includes dialling and monitoring and limited connection editing, TMagRasPer has performance statistics, TMagRasEdt to create and edit connections/ phonebooks, TMagTapi lists TAPI devices and monitors them (but does not make calls), and TMagRasAdm which supports the admin interface to RAS Server for incoming connections.

Magenta Systems Code Signing Trust and Certificate Check component v.1.00

Components > Security > Other

By Magenta Systems Ltd.

Freeware + source 12 Jul 2010

Description

The Magenta Systems Code Signing Trust and Certificate Check component v1.0 functions are designed for Code Signing, aka Microsoft Authenticode.

Currently just two functions that check if an EXE, DLL or CAB file has a valid code signing certificate, that the certificate is trusted and that the program is not corrupted. These functions were written to support an remote program updater tool, to ensure the new program was not corrupted, but may also be used to self test a Delphi application for image corruption.

ProgVerifyTrust - simple function to check code signing certificate exists and is valid and not expired, and the program image is not corrupted. This should work with Windows 2000 and later (which have wintrust.dll).

ProgVerifyCert - similar to ProgVerifyTrust, but also extracts the certificate information, names, dates, etc. But this function needs capicom.dll COM object to be installed (from which the CAPICOM_TLB type library is created), which is a free redistributable file, included with this code. Microsoft claims Capicom is deprecated with Windows 7, but the DLL still works.

Description

Magenta Systems File Transfer Components comprise three Delphi components, TMagFtp, TMagHttp and TMagFileCopy, the first two of which are high level descendants of the Internet Component Suite TFtpClient and THttpCli components, all allowing transfer of multiple files and subdirectories with a single function call.

The three components handle file listing from FTP, HTTP and disk volumes, and multiple file copying. They also include optional zipping or unzipping (requires TVCLZip component). There are numerous options available, including copying only newer files, deleting old target files, deletion after transfer, resumed failed FTP downloads and uploads, and a progress events with various levels of information for logging or display, depending upon application requirements that allows transfers to be canceled. FTP and file copying supports files larger than 2 gigs (64-bit).

A simple demonstration program that illustrates all major functionality. End user help is available describing most of the functionality in Magenta Systems DUN Manager application look under Scheduled Task Properties, FTP General, FTP Common, FTP Upload, FTP Download. HTTP Download and Sync Files. DUN Manager also provides a compiled test application for the components, using all functions (but DUN Manager source code is not available).

Magenta Systems Internet Packet Monitoring Components v.1.3

Components > Internet > Sockets

By Magenta Systems Ltd.

Freeware + source 30 Sep 2013

Description

Magenta Systems Internet Packet Monitoring Components are a set of Delphi components designed to capture and monitor internet packets using either raw sockets or the WinPcap device driver. Hardware permitting, ethernet packets may be captured and interpreted, and statistics maintained about the traffic. Uses of packet monitoring include totalling internet traffic by IP address and service, monitoring external or internal IP addresses and services accessed, network diagnostics, and many other applications. The component includes two demonstration applications, one that displays raw packets, the other that totals internet traffic. The components include various filters to reduce the number of packets that need to be processed, by allowing specific IP addresses to be ignored, LAN mask to ignore local traffic, and ignore non-IP traffic such as ARP.

The components capture packets using two different techniques, with differing benefits and features:

  • Raw sockets which are available with Windows 2000 and later. This uses WSocket from the Francois Piette Internet Component Suite. Major benefit is that no other software needs to be installed, but raw sockets don't seem to work fully with some network adaptors, and ignore non-IP protocols. Some adaptors may capture received packets, but ignore anything sent.
  • WinPcap (Windows Packet Library) device driver, needs to be installed (it installs two small DLLs and a driver), but captures all packets including non-IP. WinPcap may be downloaded from WinPCap site, and version 4.0.2 is included in this package. Note the Delphi WinPcap pcap.pas and packet32.pas modules were originally written by Lars Peter Christiansen, but have several bug fixes and many new features. In theory WinPcap will run on Windows 9x, but it's not been tested. Use of the latest WinPcap version 4.0.2 9th November 2007 is strongly recommended, but the component also supports older versions 3.1 5th August 2005 and 3.0 10 February 2003.

Freeware + source 30 Sep 2013

Description

Magenta Systems Internet Protocol Helper Component is a set of functions implementing the the Internet Protocol Helper (IP Helper) APIs. They enable the retrieval and modification of network configuration settings for the local computer. The component loads all functions dynamically so applications will still run on earlier Windows versions that did not support certain IP Helper functions. The component returns the various parameters returned by the APIs as Delphi records, for ease of integration into applications.

A comprehensive TCP/IP/ARP Monitor application is included using all the APIs to display TCP and UPD Connections (and the names of applications using them), IP address and routing tables, network adaptor information (such as MAC and IP addresses), ARP table, network statistics and dynamic DNS server addresses.

Description

Magenta Systems WMI and SMART Component contains WMI, SMART and SCSI PassThrough functions, of particular use for getting hard disk information and configuring network adaptors, but also for many other general uses.

MagWMI which allows access and update of windows system information using Windows Management Instrumentation. MagWMI provides general view access to any WMI information using SQL like commands, and also a number of dedicated function relating to TCP/IP configuration, such as setting the adaptor IP addresses, and the computer name and domain/workgroup. There are also some examples for getting BIOS and disk drive information using WMI, and also a method using SMART for getting disk information since WMI has limitations on Windows 2000. SMART also returns disk failing or fault information. For disks that don't support SMART, SCSI Pass Through is used to get the drive serial number.

A demo program illustrates the use of all the functions.

Windows XPE Enhanced Write Filter header conversion v.1.2.0

Components > Files and Drives > Disk Access

By Magenta Systems Ltd.

Freeware + source 30 Sep 2013

Description

The Windows XP Embedded Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) is used to protect one or more disk volumes by intercepting write requests to the volume and redirecting it to an overlay volume, either RAM or another disk. Note the EWF header conversion is only useful on Windows XP Embedded with the Enhanced Write Filter DLL installed. It is not available on Windows XP Pro, or other operating systems.

EWF is designed to protect the Windows boot volume so effectively it's write protected and boots up identically each time, with any changes made to a protected drive being lost on power down. If changes need to be saved, EWF API calls are needed followed by a reboot to actually update the protected drive.

Microsoft provides a command line utility EWFMGR.EXE that reports any protected volumes and provides various commands that will be processed on the next restart of the PC.

The EWF API allows these commands to be made from Windows applications. The Microsoft EWFAPI.H C header file is included, with the Microsoft help file that details the various APIs. The EWF API functions enable applications to query and modify EWF configuration settings for protected volumes. Typical usage scenarios for these functions include:

  • Disabling/enabling EWF for a protected volume.
  • Restoring or discarding an overlay level.
  • Creating a checkpoint by adding an overlay level.
  • Committing the current overlay.
  • Persisting data through a reboot.
As well as a Delphi conversion of the EWF APIs, this package includes a Windows demonstration application using the APIs. Please note this program has only been testing on Windows WP Embedded running on a flash memory C drive (IDE interface) with a single overlay in RAM. It has not been tested with a hard disk which potentially offer multiple overlays.
