Virtual Modem PRO 2.0 was designed to create software virtual IP-modems and to map them to virtual serial ports in your OS. Virtual Modem Pro emulates standard hardware modems. The main difference is that instead of using conventional telephone line, it uses Ethernet network, including Internet, VLAN, VPN, etc. Standard modems are connected to the computer via serial ports (COM1/COM2 or COM3/COM4). Virtual modem uses virtual serial ports that are complete copies of real serial ports. The main advantages of Virtual Modem Pro is speed and reliability of the transmitted data (since it uses fast Ethernet network and reliable TCP/IP protocol) as well as a considerable number (up to 255) of modems that can be created in any system. Virtual Null Modem is an utility, which purpose is to emulate one or more RS232 serial ports connected via virtual null-modem cable. Otherwise, you can create any number of pure virtual serial ports in your system (COM10, COM11, COM127 etc), that will be connected to each other via virtual null-modem cable.

If you have two applications you want to connect to each other using serial ports you need a null modem. A null modem is bascially a cable to connect two serial ports to each other. Normally you need two computers or two physical ports on one computer to achive this. Using Virtual Null Modem software you can emulate the null modem and run the two applications on the same computer without any additional hardware.

Virtual Serial Ports Driver (VSPD) creates two pure virtual serial ports in your system which are virtually connected to each other. For other Windows applications, virtual ports will be seen exactly as two real serial ports connected via null-modem cable. You can select any virtual serial port number for virtual pair. For example, you can create virtual pair COM5-COM6. In this case all data sent by other applications to COM5 will arrive at COM6, and all data sent to COM6 will arrive at COM5. This can be seen if you run two HyperTerminals (or any other Windows terminal programs) and connect one of them to COM5 and other one to COM6. Then, all you type in first terminal will appear at second one. Of course, you can transfer files, other data or do whatever you want as it was real serial ports.

With VSPD you can connect one application to another using virtual serial ports pair. Applications will be able to exchange data. This solution can be used, for example, for GPS simulation programs.
