Delphi (Object Pascal) is back in Top-Ten!

Despite an increasing figure of sold licenses, Object Pascal had been considered as an obsolete and antiquated programming language. Nevertheless it was one of the first languages empowering programmers to use so called multi-target compilation of their code when one codebase can be used for compiling EXE files or packages for Windows, Linux, Android and iOS.

Embarcadero company focuses on promotion of their flagship RAD Studio that provides developer's interface for all languages and plugins - Delphi (Object Pascal) and C++ Builder are slightly out of the limelight. However the stardom of C++ language occupying the first ladder positions is partly built on C++ Builder.

Also awareness of interconnecting Delphi and Python is very poor. For instance, a popular opensource environment PyScripter has been created in Delphi completely and on the contrary, Delphi allows using Python libraries.

The fact Object Pascal still keeps their user's portfolio is determined by many cirsumstances. Up-to-date users appreciate a famous backward copmpatibility and language flexibility - those are two prominent features which allow to develop practically any kind of app using Object Pascal - from console apps over mobile applications and enterprise systems to application servers and web-based apps. A splendid readability of code is also mentioned very frequently.

Habitually, new users consider speed of the development and plethora of ready-to-use solutions, components and utilities available on the market.

TIOBE index expresses the popularity of programming languages indirectly, based on analysis of web-search engines results. This index encompasses queries passed through Google, Google Blogs, MSN, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, Baidu, YouTube and many more. The results are elaborated monthly. As a matter of course, they do not described either sales or market share but a count of users, available courses and third-party solutions providing support for a given language.
